My Account FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

My Account: Account Creation

Can co-owners or family members share an account? Answer: My AKC accounts are intended to be used by one and only one person. Married couples, family members and business partners are encouraged to maintain separate accounts for several reasons:
  • The use of a trusted online account to conduct business with the AKC will, at times, constitute an individual's electronic signature.
  • The information that may be associated with a My AKC account--such as dog ownership, judgeship, or club membership--is unique to that account; as such, there are situations where associations will not be allowed if multiple persons try to share a web account.

My Account: Contact Management

How do I manage my contact information? Answer: You can manage your contact information in the Contact Management section of your account. If you have not authenticated your account, you can only manage the address you provided when you created your account. If you have authenticated your account and have added dogs you own to your account and/or have identified yourself as a Judge or Club Officer, you will also be able to manage the address(es) where you receive correspondence related to those activities.

The name associated with my account is wrong. How can I correct it? Answer: The name associated with your account is the name you provided when you created your account. Since My AKC accounts are now being authenticated, and the process of authentication establishes that the account user is who-they-say-they-are, the name associated with the account takes on greater significance. In order to assure that other persons cannot easily use or misuse your account, we have restricted the ability to change the name listed on your account. If you want to change the name, please contact customer service.

What happens if I select Apply Primary Address to All in the Contact Management section? Answer: When you select Apply Primary Address, you will receive all AKC correspondence at your Primary Address. Specifically, you will receive correspondence from AKC related to your dogs, your Judging activities and your Clubs at your Primary Address.

Can I undo "Apply Primary Address to All" in the Contact Management section? Answer: The only way to undo Apply Primary Address is to edit the addresses that appear under the Custom Address section. For example, if you did not intend to apply your Primary Address to your Judge Correspondence, you can select the Edit button next to your Judge Correspondence address (which would now say Primary Address Applied) and enter a new address.

Can I receive correspondence related to my dogs or my Clubs at multiple addresses? Answer: Yes. Select the Edit button next to the address you want to customize. Once you are in the custom address form, you can select Advanced Address Management. The Advanced Address Management tool allows you to maintain more than one address for your dogs or your Clubs.

My Account: Account Authentication

I requested an Access Code to authenticate my account. I never received the access code in my email account. Answer: The access code is emailed to the email address on record for you as the owner of the dog you identified. You will not receive the access code if the email address on record for you is no longer valid.

When you requested your access code, the system displayed the email address on record for you. If the email displayed was not valid, please select Update Email Address and complete the form. If the email address was valid, but you still did not receive your access code, contact customer service.

Will my credit card be charged if I choose to authenticate my account with a credit card? Answer: No. The AKC will use your credit card information to verify that the address provided matches the information on file at that credit card company. Your credit card will not be charged. It is used simply as a means of identifying that you are who you say you are.

When I try to authenticate my account using a credit card, it tells me the credit card has already been used. Answer: A credit card may only be used to authenticate one My AKC account because the name and address on the card are used to identify an individual. If your card has been used to authenticate another My AKC account, you will not be able to use the same card to authenticate a new account. Please consider using a different card to authenticate your account.

If you are concerned that an individual fraudulently used your credit card to authenticate an account in your name, please contact customer service.
