Online Dog Registration Requirements - 1st Time Visitors

The following criteria will help you determine if you can use the AKC Online Registration Service
for your litter. Use the links below to skip to a specific section.

  • The litter is AKC-registered
  • No PIN: The owner of the puppy has purchased directly from the breeder (no transfers of ownership involved before registration)
  • With PIN: The new owner purchased the puppy from the breeder or any other subsequent owners.


Note: If there is no PIN printed on the application, the litter owner must start the online dog registration process and then the owner of the puppy completes the online dog registration process. When the online process has been completed, an AKC Registration Certificate will be mailed to the owner. The owner should examine the certificate carefully and report any errors to the AKC.

If you are the Litter Owner:

You must have the following information available before you can record a puppy transfer online:

  • Litter Number
  • Litter Date of Birth
  • Dam's AKC Registration Number
  • Dam's Certificate Issue Date

You will need to know the following information for each puppy:

  • Puppy variety (if breed applicable)
  • Puppy gender
  • Puppy color
  • Puppy markings (if applicable)
  • Registration type (Full or Limited)

If the puppy is being sold, the following information will also be needed:

  • Transfer date
  • Owners' email addresses
  • Owners' first and last names
  • Owners' mailing addresses
  • Owners' telephone numbers

If you are the litter owner and keeping the dog, you will need the following information:

  • Name of puppy
  • Payment information
  • Registration Package Options (See descriptions below)

If you are the New Owner of the dog:

— and the litter owner has completed their portion of the registration process online, you must have the following information available before you can login to complete a dog registration online:

  • Dam's AKC Registration Number
  • Sire's AKC Registration Number
  • Your Puppy Number
  • Your Last Name
  • Name of puppy
  • Registration Package Options (See descriptions below)
  • Payment information
— and you have a PIN printed on your application, you will need to have the following information available to complete the online dog application:

  • Puppy number
  • PIN (Registration Status and Primary PIN numbers printed on the application)
  • Addresses of all owners (in the case of multiple ownership)
  • Name of puppy
  • Date of transfer
  • Gender
  • Color
  • Markings (if any)
  • Registration Package Options (See descriptions below)
  • Payment information

Fee Information:

The AKC accepts VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS AND DISCOVER.

  • The dog registration fee is $20
    • (The $20 application processing fee is non-refundable and subject to change without notice)
  • Registration Package Options:
      Gold - for an additional $27 you will receive:
      • Dog Care Training Video
      • Three Generation AKC-Certified Pedigree (traces back three generations of your dog's ancestry)
      • One year subscription to AKC Family Dog magazine
      Silver - for an additional $17 you will receive:
      • Three Generation AKC-Certified Pedigree (traces back three generations of your dog's ancestry)

  • Lost and Found Option - $12
      • AKC Collar Tag - High quality white plastic tag imprinted with your dog's AKC registration number.
      • Lifetime enrollment with AKC CAR 24/7 recovery services for the life of your pet.

  • A late fee of $35 is charged if the registration application is submitted 1 year after the date of the litter registration and $65 if the registration occurs 2 years after the litter registration date

When your puppy is registered, you can take advantage of the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan with an introductory 60 days pet healthcare insurance at no cost to you.

System Requirements

  • 486/66 or higher processor (Pentium processor recommended)
  • 64 MB RAM or more (minimum of 128 MB RAM is recommended)
  • Windows 95 or higher operating system OR Mac Operating system
  • 56k modem connection (cable modem or DSL recommended)
  • Internet Explorer 5.0, or higher or Netscape 6.0 or higher with Cookies enabled
  • Mouse and keyboard
