Litter Owner Action

Register Pup To Breeder - If the litter owner keeps the puppy and wants to register it, they would select this action. A series of simple screens would be presented that would lead them through the registration process. Note: If your litter has multiple owners you can only use our Online Dog Registration service to register the dog in the names of all litter owners. No transfer information can be recorded.

Artificial Insemination

The introduction of semen into the female reproductive tract by artificial means.

Fresh semen inseminations require that both the sire and dam are present, at the same time, during extraction and insemination.

Fresh extended (chilled) semen is extracted and extended by an authorized person. The semen must be extracted from a dog within the USA and shipped to a point within the USA. This type of semen must be used within a specified period of time.

Frozen semen is extracted, frozen, and stored for future use by a licensed veterinarian. The collection must be reported to AKC, and the collector/storer must be familiar with and in compliance with AKC record keeping practices.

Bitch

A female canine.

Breed

A domestic race of dogs (selected and maintained by humans) with a common gene pool and a characterized appearance and function.

Breeder

A person who breeds dogs. Under AKC rules, the breeder is the owner, or the lessee, of the dam on the date of a mating that results in a litter.

Breeding Age Limits

According to AKC rules, a dam must be at least 8 months old, but not more than 12 years old, on the date of mating. A sire must be at least 7 months old, but not more than 12 years old, on the date of mating.

Certificate Issue Date

The date AKC issued the Registration Certificate. This is found near the American Kennel Club seal on the certificate.

Color

One of the AKC standard or alternate colors for this breed of dog.

Note: Colors are approved by the National Breed Clubs so if a color is not found, then please mail in your application with a photograph of your puppy.

Crossbred

A dog whose sire and dam are representatives of two different breeds. AKC cannot register a crossbred dog.

Coupon

A printed form to be used for a discount on specified AKC forms or merchandise.

Dam

The female parent of the dog.

Dam Name - The unique name given to the dam during AKC dog registration. AKC rules prohibit changing the registered name of a dog.

Dam Owner - The person who, according to AKC records, is the registered owner of the dam.

Dam Registration Number - The unique number assigned to a dog when it is individually registered with AKC.

Dam Owner Email - The electronic mail address of the dam owner.

Dog

A male dog; also used collectively to designate both male and female.

Dog Name

The AKC recognized name of a dog.

Fees

Charges for AKC services. These are determined by AKC's Board of Directors and are subject to change without notice.

The processing fee is a nonrefundable charge to process an application.

A late fee if the registration application is submitted 1 year after the date of the litter registration; an additional late fee is added if registration occurs 2 years after the litter registration date.

Foundation Stock Service (FSS)

The Foundation Stock Service is an optional record keeping service for purebred breeds not currently registrable with AKC.

Gender

The sex of the puppy; male or female.

Inbreeding

The mating of two closely related dogs of the same breed.

Incapacitation

When a recorded owner is unable to sign AKC documents due to an illness or handicap.

Lease

The assignment of breeding rights by the recorded owner of a bitch to another person for a specified period of time. Only bitches may be leased.

Number of Transfers

The number of subsequent transfers between the litter owner and the new owner that is registering the dog.

Limited Registration

Restricted registration that prohibits both AKC registration of any puppies produced by this dog and participation in conformation events. Limited registration is assigned to a dog by its breeder. Only the breeder can revoke a limited registration.

Full Registration

Full registration allows AKC registration of any puppies produced by this dog and participation in any applicable events.

Litter

A litter is the puppy or puppies of one whelping.

Litter registration is the recording of the birth of a litter of puppies that are offspring of an AKC-registered sire and dam of the same breed.

A litter kit contains an Individual Dog Registration Application for each puppy in a litter and a litter record in order to maintain the proper written records required by AKC regulations.

The litter owner is the person who is the owner or lessee of the dam when the litter is whelped.

Litter Date of Birth

Living Females
The number of female puppies in the litter to be registered. AKC only registers living dogs.
Living Males

The number of male puppies in the litter to be registered. AKC only registers living dogs.

Markings

One of the AKC standard or alternate markings for this breed of dog.

Mating

The sexual coupling of a dog and bitch.

Close mating is a condition where there is less than 4 months and 15 days between either:

Power of Attorney

When a recorded owner grants another individual the authorization to sign AKC documents on his/her behalf.

Puppy Number

The unique number assigned to a puppy from a litter registered with AKC. The puppy number consists of the litter number plus a sequential suffix.

Registration Certificate

The document issued by AKC to the registered owner of a dog when it is individually registered or transferred to a new owner.

Sire

Statement of Legal Rights

A form authorizing a person to act for a deceased person in AKC affairs. The form must be notarized.

Stud Book Date

This is the month and year of the issue of the Stud Book Register in which the particulars of the dog's first breeding experience are recorded. It should not be confused with the dog's date of birth. The Stud Book Register, published monthly, contains the pedigree (sire and dam) of a dog that has been used at stud or a bitch that has whelped a litter for the first time. The Register also contains the names of the owners of all dogs and bitches published as well as the names of the breeders. In addition, registration numbers, dates of whelping, and colors are listed.

A male dog used for breeding purposes.

Stud Dog Power of Attorney

A completed form (used primarily by handlers) that authorizes AKC to accept the signature of someone other than the actual owner of the stud dog named. This form can be used only on litter applications for litters sired by that dog. The form is valid for one year; a new form must be filed to extend authorization.

Submission Date

The date which the litter owner entered the online application to register a particular litter.

Total Puppies

The number of living males and females in a litter.

Transaction Number

A unique number AKC assigns for tracking purposes to an online application.

Transfer Date

The date the ownership of the puppy was transferred from litter owner to the new owner. If a litter owner registers the puppy, the transfer date is equal to the litter date of birth.

Date Acquired

The date the former owner acquired the dog from the litter owner or a previous owner.

Variety

A subcategory within a breed. For example, miniature, toy and standard poodles.

Whelp

In whelp is when the dam is pregnant.

The whelp date is the date on which the puppies are born. Also referred to as the litter date of birth.

Whelping is the act of birthing puppies.

Breed 1

Canine Partners Listed Dog Name
