Online Litter Registration Requirements

The following criteria will help you determine if you can use the AKC Online Registration Service for your litter.

• The dam owner submitting the litter application and the sire owner approving it must have email accounts and access to the Internet.
• The litter must be bred and whelped in the USA.
• The mailing address for the litter kit must be a U.S. street address or P.O. box.
• The sire and dam must be AKC registered and be of the same breed.
• There can be no ownership changes on the sire or dam from the date of mating through the date of birth.
• There can be no lease in effect on the dam from the date of mating through the date of birth.
• The litter must be from a natural mating, not the result of artificial insemination.
• The litter must be bred from a single sire, not the result of a multiple sire mating.
• The method of payment must be by VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS or DISCOVER.
• Multiple owners of dams should review the AKC Board of Directors policy change for Online Litters. Policy
• Import DNA requirement: All imported dogs (male or female) registered on or after March 1, 2006 require AKC DNA profiling prior to the registration of their first AKC-registered litter.

If your litter meets the above criteria, you will need to have the following information available to complete the online application:

• The dam's AKC registration number (must be in the format AA99999999 - two letters followed by eight digits)
• The dam's AKC registered name
• The dam's certificate issue date
• The submitting dam owner's email address
• The sire's AKC registration number (must be in the format AA99999999 - two letters followed by eight digits)
• The sire's AKC registered name
• The sire's certificate issue date (if you own the sire)
• The sire owner's email address
• The dam owner's email address (only during the dam owner process)
• Your credit card number and expiration date
• For dams with multiple owners the owner submitting the application should have the appropriate permission from all other litter owners. Policy

Fee Information

A litter fee is comprised of two parts: a processing fee of $25.00 plus a puppy fee of $2.00 per live puppy (multiply the total number of live puppies by $2.00).

A late fee of $65.00 is required on all litters submitted more than six (6) months after the litter was whelped.

Expedited Litter Kit Delivery:

Expedited litters take three to five business days for the litter owner to receive the litter kit after the litter is completed and approved by the sire owner. This service requires an additional fee of $17.

The AKC only accepts VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS and DISCOVER.

The AKC does not accept Debit cards for Fee payment.

If a sire has sired seven (7) or more litters in his lifetime or more than three (3) litters in the calendar year, an AKC DNA profile must be on file.

The AKC Board of Directors approved a policy change in July, 2003 to require only one owner of a co-owned dam to submit an application online. The owner submitting the application is required to have written permission of all the co-owners of the dam and be able to support the permission to the AKC upon request. The policy of requiring all the co-owners to sign-off on a puppy sale is still in effect.
