What is the date of transfer for my dog

+
  • When registering a new puppy This is the day you brought your puppy home, or took possession of the dog, and cannot be a future date.
  • When transferring ownership to a new person or changing existing owners – This is the date the new ownership or changes to existing ownership took effect.

What is my dog's registration type

+

Your AKC Dog Registration Application provides the option for the litter owner to designate limited or full registration. This is always assigned by the litter owner.

When the Registration Type box is completely darkened by the litter owner, your dog will be registered with limited registration. If the box is not darkened, you will receive full registration privileges.

What does limited registration mean? Limited dogs are eligible to compete in all AKClicensed events except breed competition at an AKC-licensed dog show. Litters born from dogs with a limited registration are not eligible for AKC registration.

Where do I find my Online Registration PIN

+

Most Online Dog Registrations will prompt for two PIN codes (excludes pre-paid applications).

  • Online PIN this is a 5-digit PIN Code
  • Registration Type PIN this is a 3-digit PIN Code (if darkened you will not enter)

Document types do vary, so your PIN may be located in various sections on your application. You can find the most common forms and where your PINS may be located by clicking the next to the PIN number during the Online Dog Registration process.
Note: If you are unable to process your registration online, or your application does not have PIN codes, please mail your application using the address on the back of the application. We are unable to accept applications via email.

How do I transfer or add a co-owner to my AKC registered dog

+

Online: You will need the properly completed original AKC Certificate. This contains the Certificate Issued date needed to start the online process. After a new owner has been entered and saved, you will see the option to add a Co-Owner.

Paper: Mail the completed AKC Certificate to the AKC address provided on the back of the form. If there are more than two former or new owners, you can download and print the Additional Signature Form to be included when you mail your form.

Note: The back of the original AKC Certificate issued for your dog is the official Transfer Application. All signatures from former and new or additional owners are required.

How do I select a name for my dog

+

Each dog name within our records must be unique the more unique your choice the better the chance you will not receive a roman numeral.

If the name you selected has already been used for another registered dog of the same breed, then a Roman numeral is added to the end of your dog’s name (up to 37 times) or your dog may be surnamed. This ensures that names are not duplicated.

I never received my AKC documents

+

If it has been more than three weeks since we mailed the documents to you and you have not received it, we will gladly offer a reprint. We do ask that you allow three weeks before contacting us for reprints due to USPS delays.

Please have your dog’s litter number or registration number available (or be sure to include it if emailing us). You will also need to verify/include your current mailing address.

If you would like us to send a litter kit reprint to a different address than what was originally submitted at the time of registration, we will need a signed statement in writing from the litter owner(s), along with a litter number and alternate address, and we would be happy to assist you.
