Mr. Henry L. Gregory
Henry L. Gregory, of Pearl River, Louisiana, began competing in obedience with his German Shepherd Dog in 1961, and soon after was showing in conformation.
As an AKC-licensed handler, Mr. Gregory scored group wins with his clients' dogs and those of his own breeding. As a breeder-exhibitor of German Shepherds and Wire Fox Terriers, he says, "I got tired of running and tired of stripping, and worked my way down to smooth standard Dachshunds." Over the years, Mr. Gregory and his wife, AKC judge Jacquelyn Gregory, bred 26 champions (finishing 20 themselves) and bought six others they finished. He says, "I have always felt responsible breeders are the most important people in our sport."
Mr. Gregory has been an AKC judge since 1985 and is approved for all herding and working dogs, and eight hound breeds. He is the past president and show chairman for the Baton Rouge KC and the Bayou Dachshund Club of New Orleans, and is the show chairman for the Slidell Dog Fanciers and Pearl River KC.
A graduate of Tulane University, Mr. Gregory is an Air Force veteran and a retired accountant. Mrs. Gregory died in September 2007, after 50 years of marriage. "Without her help and support," Mr. Gregory says, "my accomplishments in the sport would have been impossible."
