Retriever Hunting Tests
Long Island Golden Retriever Club

On Friday, October 24th, The Long Island Golden Retriever Club held their Retriever Hunt Test starting with the Master Level on the beautiful eastern end of Long Island, New York at the Otis Pike Preserve in Manorville. The weather turned out to be ideal, with clear sunny skies, brisk morning air with light intermittent autumn winds.

Friday began with the Master Level Judges, Mike Bunting and Kenneth Nelson using the Preserve's beautiful and varied land for good test designs. One of the early series was designed with a land using mallards and pheasants across level ground offering numerous natural obstacles. Their was good use of cover with holding blinds strategically placed to conceal guns and throwers.

Later in the day with temperatures still brisk, another land / water triple series was set up using two large ponds separated by a thin strip of land and up a hill loaded with brush. This time the live flyer was out in front with two retired birds to either side. The Judges and Official Gun, John Brisbois, and Co-Captain, Joe Zahara worked together to set up numerous decoys proving to give entries a challenging workout.

Participants traveled from as far as CT, NH and MA to find great weather and a successful event.
