West Thompson, CT - August 16-17, 2008
by Chuck Kimbrel, Executive Staff-Field Representative
On the weekend of August 16-17 the Labrador Retriever Club of Greater Boston held their late summer annual Retriever hunt test neat the town of West Thompson, Connecticut. This year's event had a total of 147 entries and featured a single Master, Senior and Junior stakes.
The event was held at Peakebrook Farms, owned by Dr. James Dean, and the West Thompson Dam area, both located near Woodstock and West Thompson, Connecticut.
With a total of 67 entries in the Master stake the entries were split into and "A" and "B" division, these two divisions were judged by Ellison Armfield, Robert Samois, William Clark and Doris Aylward. The judges cooperatively set up three very nice master level tests and tested the entrants very extensively. At the conclusion 17 dogs in master A and 10 in master B received qualifying scores.
The Senior stake judged by Elizabeth Millikin and Glenn Simonson had a total of 36 entries, the judges presented two very nice Senior level test and at conclusion 12 dogs had qualified.
The Junior stake judged by Dawn Terrill and Nancy Wolston had and entry of 44 dogs, these judges presented four very nice Junior level single retrieves for the participants and 24 qualified at this level.
Event Co-Chairladies Karen Kennedy and Joey Edsall and their entire event committee worked very hard to make sure that the event was up and running both mornings and that all in attendance had a nice time. I would also like to thank Karen Hocker of Karen Hocker Photography & Design Studio for so graciously contributing some of the photos for this article.
