News and Updates

9/21/2011
Due to the overwhelming response of entries for the 2011 AKC National Obedience Invitational, AKC has adjusted the format* for this year's competition. The total number of accepted invitations to attend this event surpassed the number required for a second round of invitations to be extended. Therefore, invitations have now closed for this prestigious event and there will be no additional invitations extended.

All exhibitors/dogs will compete both days! Awards will be based on the cumulative totals from both Saturday and Sunday’s competition.

THE 2011 NATIONAL OBEDIENCE INVITATIONAL JUDGES ARE:

Mr. Roger Ayres – Texas
Mrs. Patricia Krause – Wisconsin
Mr. Ronald Roberts – Florida
Mr. Robert Squires – New York
Mr. Robert Janek – Indiana
Mr. Tom Masterson – Ohio
Mr. Robert Self, Jr. – Illinois
Mrs. Betty Winthers – Washington

Competition will be the same for both Saturday and Sunday. Each dog will compete in each of the eight rings with two to three exercises per ring. The exercises will be scored based on the current Obedience Regulations with one exception; any dog who fouls the ring will receive a 40-point deduction. In addition to the individual exercises, there will be Group Exercises on Saturday only with the order of exercises posted at the trial site in the morning. The exercises that will be performed for each ring will be provided in the exhibitor packet during check-in on Friday/Saturday. Please read the event Information Booklet for "Exhibitor Check-In" times.

All awards will be presented Sunday following the competition and will include the following:

Hotel and travel information now available

3/21/2011
We are in the process of working out the final details as to the best available rates and accepting dogs with several of the large Hotels that surround the Convention Center as well as some of the smaller hotels along nearby I-Drive. Some of these Hotels do not normally take dogs, but they are making an exception for our event week. Or if they do normally take dogs, perhaps there is a weight restriction, and they are making an exception for our event week. Until these room blocks are available in the Hotel's reservation system- anyone calling the Hotel will get that Hotel's standard response as to their "pet policy".

Watch AKC's website for the list of hotels and rates to be posted as soon as they are available.
