AKC/USA World Team Practice 2007 Ohio

AKC World Team members flew or drove into Columbus, Ohio on Friday, August 17th, for their second practice in preparation for the 2007 World Championships, to be held September 28-30 in Hamar, Norway.

The team spent Friday evening trying on uniforms for the event and discussing strategies and goals for the upcoming practice. Friday night, the team was welcomed by the Wild Weavers Agility Club at their evening meeting, which was followed by a delicious dinner. (The team was well-fed the entire visit as team member Jennifer Crank's father, Phil Crank, generously prepared all the meals for them, including the delicious evening barbeque.)

Team member Linda Mecklenburg graciously offered her home and training facility in Mt. Gilead, Ohio for this second practice, and Saturday and Sunday were spent in the beautiful Ohio countryside she calls home. Special thanks to Linda Mecklenburg and Phil and Susan Crank for offering their homes and hospitality to the team. Team practice was led by World Team Coach Nancy Gyes and Assistant Coach Katherine Leggett. Local volunteers were on hand to assist former team member Jean Lavalley in course building and in stewarding. The weather was an idyllic 70 degrees all day on Saturday and the team was able to accomplish a great deal of training on the large courses provided by Linda's outdoor agility fields. A bit of rain brought the team indoors briefly on Sunday, where they made use of Linda's carpeted training facility. The team practiced on equipment Linda imported from England; this equipment is the same Premier Agility Equipment that they will be competing on at the World Championships.

Team members Dee Anna Gamel and Marcy Mantell took pictures of the 2007 AKC World Team on Sunday evening before the tired team members, coaches, assistants, and volunteers made their way back to the places they call home. The dogs traveled well and everyone was home safely by Monday, August 20th.

The countdown until the World Championships is upon us as less than a month remains before the team boards flights from all across the United States to rendezvous in Norway on September 23. Coaches Nancy Gyes and Katharine Leggett declared the August practice the "absolute best ever Team practice!" The facilities and equipment provided by Linda Mecklenburg were ideal in preparing for the upcoming World Championships. The team feels confident and they are ready and excited to be departing soon for Norway.
