World Team in Spain: Day Two
September 20: Salamanca
Today was a day of exploration for many of the team members and supporters. It dawned a beautiful sunny morning in Valladolid, which boasts itself as the home of Miguel Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, Man of La Mancha. Those who were interested eagerly climbed aboard the touring bus for the hour-plus ride to Salamanca. It is the provincial capital of the Province of Salamanca situated west of Valladolid on the border of Portugal. Known for its University, a centuries-old seat of learning, it is one of the city's most impressive architectural sights built in the Gothic-style. Equally impressive is the "old cathedral" Catedral Vieja, which started to be built in 1150 and the "new cathedral" Catedral Nuevo its construction commenced in 1513 when the old cathedral became too small.
Once the walking tour of the city ended, people started to go their own way. Those with dogs found a wonderful park to let them relax, while others partook of the local cafes and interesting shops. Mid-afternoon found everyone on the bus back to Valladolid amid exciting conversations and satisfied palates.
The day ended with a team meeting to prepare them for the early morning practice at the Campo de Agility in Valladolid.
