2002 World Agility Championships
October 4-6, 2002 - Dortmund, Germany
2002 World Team Selections Announced - July 3, 2002

The following dogs and handlers were chosen to represent the American Kennel Club and the United States. These team members were chosen from an outstanding group of candidates. It was an extremely difficult task to select this team. The team members were selected from the outstanding Gold and Silver team winners from last year and added in the new talent with an eye toward the future. Coach, Dan Dege and Team Leader, Sharon Anderson are very proud of all the dogs and handlers that tried out for this honor and would have happily taken many more team members if entry would have allowed it.

Congratulations to the following World Team members for 2002:

Maxi Team: (26" jump height)

Elicia Calhoun - Suni - Australian Shepherd, New Jersey
Nancy Gyes - Riot - Border Collie - California
Linda Wallace Kipp - Jessie - Border Collie, New Mexico

Mini Team: (14" jump height)

Cheryl Fischer - Turbo - Papillon, New Jersey

Katherine Leggett - Heather - Shetland Sheepdog, California
Erin Schaefer - Jag - Shetland Sheepdog, Pennsylvania

There is a new format this year that does not allow for a dropped team score. Teams used to compete with four members and use the best three scores. With the addition of the Midis this year, only three dogs per jump height will run and all three scores in each of the Team Jumping (with weaves) and Team Standard (simply called the Agility Round in Europe) will count. Clean runs or scores of zero (0) are best under their scoring format.

There are also Individual Jumping and Standard rounds to determine Individual Agility Champions.

The U.S. is sending 13 dog and handler teams to share in the Team and Individual duties. The U.S. will have three full teams of three dogs each for Mini, Midi and Maxi. Note: each jump height is considered a unique team, therefore scores of all heights are not merged. The U.S. will send five Maxis to compete in the Individuals along with two Midis and two Minis any combination of nine is allowed.

Let's go for the GOLD, USA!!!!
